Environmental Initiatives
We are helping restore a fragile ecosystem
For a while now, Swift Flow has been looking into different Environmental initiatives we can do and have made the first move. We have offset the carbon from our work Utes and put the money towards reforestation in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.
We are doing this through Carbon Neutral Pty Ltd. They are an excellent Western Australian company, improving a very important section of Western Australia.
As well as helping restore a great part of our State, other benefits include employment and training opportunities for local people, contribution to local businesses and positive engagement with indigenous communities.
more about how our contribution is helping
The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor plantings are located in the northern weatbelt of Western Australia. The region has an exceptionally high number of plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world. It has been identified as one of 35 global biodiversity hotspots for wildlife and plants, and the first one identified in Australia.
The Yarra Yarra Corridor was once an area of vibrant woodlands. But since the arrival of Europeans in the early 1900s, approximately 97% of the vegetation has been cleared for traditional farming practices.
Now, due to problem soils and a dry climate, parts of the landscape are not suitable for traditional agriculture. The loss of habitat has also caused native specied to be under threat.
Planting trees and shrubs is part of a much larger vision. The goal is to link small patches of remaining vegitation and 12 nature reserves to create a green corridor to help restore ecosystems and preserve threatened and unique flora and fauna.
Through planting species indigenous to the region the revegetation project encourages the reintroduction of endangered species and combats desertification in this biodiverse hotspot.
